    KILIMANJARO SUMMIT ROUTES:

    At the base of Kibo, three (3) routes can either takes to the peak of the mountain, up to the crater rim.

    •   Kibo Hut Route
    •  Barafu Route
    •  Western Breach Route

    The Western Breach Route which is known as Arrow Glacier Route, start near Lava Tower and proceed to slopes of Kibo which Western part the mountain. The Western Breach Route can be used by climbers taking Shira, Lemosho, Umbwe and Machame Route.

    This route is considered to be unsafe due rockfalls, melting glaciers etc. It was closed in 2006 as it was a dangerous route to the summit.

    The Barafu Route, starts at Barafu Camp and moves to the South Eastern part of Kibo, and reach Crater Rim through Stella Point. The Barafu Route are used for those using Lemosho, Machame, shira and Umbwe Route.

    KILIMANJARO DESCENT ROUTES

    The descent routes depend on which routes you use going to the summit.

    • If you use Machame, Lemosho, Umbwe and Shira Routes, you will descend from Kilimanjaro through Mweka Route
    •  If you climbed through Marangu or Rongai Route descent route will be through Marangu Route.

    The most popular and easiest route to Climb Kilimanjaro is through Marangu Route. Its famously known as Coca-cola Route. It's the shortest route up to the summit, which can be done for 5-days for both ascent and descent. The Marangu route is steady with gentle climb up to the summit. It's the only route with hut accommodations. Though this route is easy to climb Kilimanjaro but has very low successs rate. The reason behind is due to few number of days to the summit. Climbers do have quick ascent to high altitude without acclimatization. Failing to have proper acclimatization leads to low success rate for this route.

    Reason for Kilimanjaro Routes differs in Success rate?

    The success rate for different Kilimanjaro Routes do differs. The reason behind are as below:

    • The number of days you chose to climb Kilimanjaro. If you choose program with shorter days then you will lack acclimatization, the longer the program the better the acclimatization. If you have better acclimation possibility to reach at summit is high.
    •  Ability of the body to acclimatize to high altitude. Depending on genetic for some climbers fails to acclimatize to high altitude. If you body will have adapt easily to high altitude then you can will not have any problem to reach at summit. Climbing Kilimanjaro has seven different routes to the summit. The routes are Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, Umbwe, Shira and Mweka.
